Chronicles of a Dreamworker Series

I love my intuitive work with cards, and I’ve recently felt the call to learn more about tarot. I’ve brought out my deck, borrowed Tarot Made Easy by Kim Arnold from the bliss co-op library, and am going to study a card every day. I would also love to discuss these more with others, so I’ll share one card a week and we can chat about them here!
This week’s card is The Devil.
Now we’re really getting into the tarot cards that typically frighten people away from the practice, however I encourage us to keep an open mind and perhaps find a new perspective – after all, that what The Devil card is encouraging us to take initiative on.
Many look at The Devil card and view it as a negative sign, however The Devil really represents choices. This card is nothing to fear as it is a reflection of your current situation, as well as a reminder that you need to make a choice in order to move forwards. Otherwise, you may be stuck in place with “the devil you know.”
The imagery of the card also shows us that options are available for us, but only if we choose to see them. The card is dark and black in the background. In the front are a man and woman with chains tied loosely around their necks. They could remove those ties that bind them easily if they wanted to. Dominating the card if the image of the devil, large and red half man and half goat. It’s also important to note that the humans have unique tails. The woman appears to have a green vine of purple grapes, and the man’s is of fire, seemingly lit by a torch held in hand by the devil himself.
This card often appears when we feel like we’re in a situation that we can’t change. Perhaps it’s a job, relationship, living arrangements or something else that feels quite stuck in our lives. We may feel like we’re not in control of our own destiny. You may have also let a dominating personality to take over your thoughts and actions. This card can also indicate a time where you’re struggling with addictions or overindulgence.
Regardless, it’s time to work on those self-confidence issues. You don’t need to rush into a decision, but simply take a look at the options and potential solutions to your situation. See what’s available to you instead of sticking your head in the sand. You know you won’t benefit by staying in the same place forever. Reversed this card can represent overcoming obstacles and letting go.
Overall, The Devil Card wants us to look at our choices and release the restrictions that have bewn placed on us, either by outside forces or by our own making. It’s time to take responsibility and take charge of our destiny with courage.
