Chronicles of a Dreamworker Series

I love my intuitive work with cards, and I’ve recently felt the call to learn more about tarot. I’ve brought out my deck, borrowed Tarot Made Easy by Kim Arnold from the bliss co-op library, and am going to study a card every day. I would also love to discuss these more with others, so I’ll share one card a week and we can chat about them here!
This week’s card is Death.
I interpret the Death card as a representation of transformation. It represents the process of death and release that must happen in order to make room for something new to appear. The physical representation of the card shows the soul’s transformation in action. A skeleton in armor rides a horse bearing a white rose flag of peace. Behind it lies destruction and upheaval, but ahead a holy man prays and children offer white flowers in welcome as the sun rises behind them.
There is as association of fear with death, but what is really being felt is the loss of what no longer serves. This card usually comes up when big changes are happening in our lives, such as the loss of a relationship, the release of an old lifestyle or job, moving or of illness. Many practitioners do not use or find the Death card beneficial in trying to identify physical death.
As Arnold says in her book, “Life is for the living and we should make the most of every moment!”
Receiving the Death card can actually be a welcome sign of relief I you’ve been going through a difficult season of life as it represents closure for new opportunities to arrive. It’s important to remember that the changes the Death card brings are usually fated, and that we might not have much choice in the matter. Reversed it can represent stagnation or the unwillingness to let go and move on.
Overall the Death card wants us to remember that everything happens for a reason, and that the process of endings and release are a necessary part of the cycle in order for new life or aspects of our life to being again. When the Death card appears we must trust that everything is happening as it should, and look forward to the new possibilities that await with the sunrise.
