Let’s Learn Tarot – The Hanged Man

Chronicles of a Dreamworker Series

I love my intuitive work with cards, and I’ve recently felt the call to learn more about tarot. I’ve brought out my deck, borrowed Tarot Made Easy by Kim Arnold from the bliss co-op library, and am going to study a card every day. I would also love to discuss these more with others, so I’ll share one card a week and we can chat about them here!

This week’s card is The Hanged Man.

The Hanged Man card evokes the feeling of suspension just as depicted in the card’s imagery. A man hangs upside down, one foot is free yet his arms appear restrained. There is a halo of yellow light surrounding his head that represents martyrdom.

The Hanged Man appears when we are in a period of stagnation, frustration, or feeling blocked. It encourages us to look at our situation and consider ways we may be too fixed, need to compromise, or to look at things from a different perspective. It also wants us to look at the timing and consider whether we have everything we need to move forward.

This card can also appear when it’s time for you to make a decision. Is your own hesitancy causing the blockage? Are you too comfortable waiting rather than risking the potential outcomes? The only way to resolve this frustration is to make a decision and move forwards. You may need to compromise or make a concession in order to benefit later. Reversed this card can represent indecisiveness or a lack of effort.

Overall The Hanged Man wants us to use this time as an opportunity to refocus and decide what is truly important and what can wait for another time. It also wants us to trust the Universe’s timing, and to make sure we have what we need in order to move forward.
