Let’s Learn Tarot – The Empress

Chronicles of a Dreamworker Series

I love my intuitive work with cards, and I’ve recently felt the call to learn more about tarot. I’ve brought out my deck, borrowed Tarot Made Easy by Kim Arnold from the bliss co-op library, and am going to study a card every day. I would also love to discuss these more with others, so I’ll share one card a week and we can chat about them here!

This week’s card is The Empress.

I know I say I love the energy of every card, but I REALLY love the energy of The Empress. She is motherly and nurturing, sometimes to the point of being overbearing, but I can’t help but resonate with her creative energy. I feel like a lot of women that ever been told they’re “too much” can relate to the intensity of The Empress card.

The Empress represents motherhood, fertility and kindness. She is the symbol of birth and new beginnings, abundance, growth and beauty. She may appear at a time in which we are making physical changes to our selves or our health, as well as our home environment. The Empress loves a beautiful, flowing environment both within and in our outer worlds. You can also easily gather that from her physical representation on the card, as she is adorned, pregnant and regal on the throne, in front of an optimistic yellow background.

The Empress energy is strong, sometimes to the point of being a little too much – think of the mother who gives her opinion on something without being asked. The Empress reminds us to make sure our voice and opinions are needed in a situation before giving them. This card also reminds us to not allow others to become dependent or to latch on to our good energy in a destructive way, or you could easily become inundated with other people’s problems. Reversed this card can represent our own indecisiveness and that lack of personal care and boundaries, which are the opposite extremes of what The Empress upright wants to bring us.

The Empress is a wonderful affirmation of new beginnings. The Empress represents taking that first step forward to whatever you set your mind to, whether it’s creating a new idea or taking a new direction on your own. It’s a powerful energy but can be worked with in something as simple as setting your intentions with the Universe. The Empress energy gives us the confidence and support we need to help make whatever it is we’re creating something magical.
