Anyone can benefit from some of the most important habits of creative living. Here are three that I live by:

1. Nourish Yourself First – Before you start anything – your day, your art practice, your work, exercise, socializing, anything! Make. Sure. You. Are. Nourished. Fuel yourself with what you need. Whether that’s yummy foods, a big glass of water, some quiet time, or quick stretch, it’s so important you give yourself the best start possible in everything you do.

2. Set Your Own Pace – It’s easier said than done in our world, but you can’t let your needs fall into the cracks of societal expectations as we run around our days. Schedule in breaks for a quick walk or quiet meditation. Tweak your work schedule if possible, or try a workout class at a different time. Prioritize something fun in your schedule or with your family. One size does not fit all, and you deserve to find out what pace works best for you.

3. Be Solutions Oriented – When problems arise, stay focused on finding solutions. It’s easy to get hung up on mistakes or unexpected issues, but staying focused on finding solutions to problems is a very creative mindset. Artists are tasked with the challenge of bringing their unique ideas or feelings to life in their work by any creative means possible. A similar approach can be used in many of life’s challenges, and can help you get through the more difficult moments with more ease.
